Cast Your Vote for Your Favorite Demon of Adoption

Mitt Romney
Halloween is the last day to vote for your favorite demon. No, not Mitt Romney, but one of the nominees in Pound Puppy Legacy's (PPL) annual contest to select the Demon of Adoption. Romney, who threatened a young unmarried woman with excommunication from the Mormon Church if she didn't surrender her baby, certainly deserves a vote but, alas, he's not on the ballot.

PPL's Demons of Adoption contest mocks the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute's Annual Angel in Adoption Award. Created to raise awareness of children in foster care needing homes, it has become  "an adoption industry love fest lauding agency executives and adoption attorneys simply for running a business." Past angels include convicted child molester Jerry Sandusky, since stripped of his halo.

Jane
As in the past, PPL has presented a slate of candidates extraordinaire, listed below with a link to the ballot*. (We totally disagree with the inclusion of Nancy Verrier. Her works effectively counter adoption industry propaganda about the joys of being adopted.)

Although it's tough to choose, I'm voting for South Korea. For 60 years, the South Korean government has been sending its poor, sick, and "illegitimate" children to the US, Europe, and Australia rather than provide for them. At one time children were its largest export and these unfortunate tots still put tons of cash into the hands of adoption profiteers and government officials.

Lorraine
Lorraine favors the Oxygen Network for producing "I'm Having Their Baby" and making money from the misery of young women as they sign away their babies. Lorraine is home bound and Internet unbound as Sandy passes through Sag Harbor, New York. Lorraine's fortunate to be on ground high enough to escape damage to her home and she has power and telephone service. Her cable is out, cutting off Internet and television service. She'll be posting as soon as she can.

To our readers on the East Coast, we're thinking of you and hoping you're doing okay.

To all our readers, Happy Halloween! Eat lots of treats and play lots of tricks. And brace yourself for November when the demons of adoption come out in full force to celebrate National Adoption Awareness Month . Here are the candidates, link to vote at Pound Pup Legacy below. --jane

  • *The Christian Post: for running several mind bendingly biased articles about intercountry adoption;
  • Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institutefor giving their seal of approval to persons and organizations that promote the interests of the adoption industry and pushing agency friendly legislation in Congress;
  • Celebrate Children International: for being the agency behind numerous illegal adoptions, and the agency of record for the stolen child Fernanda;
  • Oxygen Network: for producing the absolutely horrendous show "I'm Having Their Baby." Tasteless, manipulative, coercive, and intrusive into the lives of vulnerable women trying to cope with an unplanned pregnancy;
  • Adam Pertman: for claiming to be a critic of the adoption system, while at the same time promoting the interest of the adoption industry;
  • Martin Narey: for trying to speed up adoptions and make it easier to adopt, and suggesting women who want to abort should abandon;
  • Adoption Assistance, Inc. and World Association for Children and Parents (WACAP): for their role in the adoption travesty featuring Artem Justin Hansen (Artem Saveliev) and his so-called "permanent placement" with "forever mom", Torry Hansen, infamous Adoptive mother who returned her problem-child back to Russia like a pair of unwanted shoes;
  • U.S. State Department: for their show-boating role in adoption regulation reform talks with Russia this year. Despite all appearances, the DOS has zero power when it comes to enforcing regulations established between the two signatories;
  • Larry S. Jenkins: for his involvement in nearly every case where father's rights were violated;
  • The United States House of Representatives: for fast-tracking H.R. 1464: North Korean Refugee Adoption Act of 2011; This bill in effect by-passes the limited safe-guards that are in place in international adoption, to bring North Korean children to the US for adoption.;
  • Nancy Verrier: for her untested and untestable theory. It creates nothing but weepy distraction in the legitimate battle against adoption secrecy, corruption, and coercion;
  • South Korea: for having the longest running international adoption program in the world; for not giving adequate support to single mothers.

  1. The inclusion of Nancy Verrier has turned me off to this particular contest. I personally like her work and it was the first thing I ever came across that validated that being adopted can be very painful for the child. Just about everything else out there was about how being adopted was the same as being a bio-kid, infants were blank slates, the adoptive parents are the REAL parents, adopted children were as if born to, etc. ad nauseaum.

    I guess I would have to agree with you about Korea. Whenever I hear that someone has adopted a child from Korea, I feel rather sick to my stomach. It certainly sounds like they are having a BSE and that there is a very high probability that the n-mother was forced to give the child up.

    Thanks for the update about Lorraine. I hope that Maryanne, Mirah, Elaine P, Susan P and all of the other New Jersey, New York, and east coast readers will check in as soon as possible to let us all know they are okay.

    You mentioned foster children and I have a question about that. If these children get adopted when they are older will they then get an amended birth certificate and have trouble getting a driver's license or passport due to the homeland security rules? I can't bear to think of that happening to these children who have already suffered so much.

  2. Thanks for asking about us here in NJ and the East Coast. I am one of the fortunate few in NJ who have power now, although it has been off for hours twice. Trees and branches are still falling and taking down power lines. The area that got hardest hit was the shore with the storm surge and terrible flooding. We are way inland and the major issue here was the wind that howled all night like the banshee and downed trees and power lines. I doubt Lo has power, Long Island was hit hard too as were the lower areas of NYC.

    Almost all boardwalks along the Jersey shore suffered terrible damage and the barrier islands flooded as bay and sea came together. Worst storm ever in this area is no exaggeration but we are fine and my son and wife in south jersey but also inland in his new home are fine too, but without power. I hope you are all safe and well too.

  3. Is there no comment box at my recent post, as someone has stated? No idea why. Let me see if I can fix.
