The adoptive mother notes it would be "their deepest joy if one dat he chose to go back to Haiti and make a difference."

I'd like to catch up with the family in about 15 years. I know I should be thrilled for little Frankie, but I can't help but wonder how long it'll be before his parents cut off those cool little dreadlocks...Lindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05958887097090820238noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-574300303008890516.post-63564450577487664652010-01-25T00:58:18.621-05:002010-01-25T00:58:18.621-05:00Great post!Great post!not halliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03665354788125112200noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-574300303008890516.post-38195944019824953592010-01-24T08:09:36.029-05:002010-01-24T08:09:36.029-05:00(I am an adoptive mama from the UK - our children ...(I am an adoptive mama from the UK - our children needed to be removed from their families of origin as those were not safe places for them - and I hope it is okay to post here.)

I feel desperately sorry for children who are moved from one country to another like this, when what would be better for them is to be lovingly cared for until the situation is calmer. I am not a fan at all of children who have living parents being adopted out of country just because their families cannot afford to care for them - to lose a child for purely financial reasons, especially when the adoptive family will be handing over sums that are very large in the country of origin seems so wrong. Surely the out of country adoption agencies could try and fund keeping families together? Personally, I think true orphans or those who have no family members who could care for them are better off being nurtured in their country of origin. I have read so many sad sad things from US adoptive families talking about how they rob their new child (including even teens reliquished by poverty stricken parents in places like Liberia) of everything from their birth culture within hours of them arriving in the States.Lucyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14907284328066937884noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-574300303008890516.post-23308425027686515442010-01-23T02:24:28.255-05:002010-01-23T02:24:28.255-05:00I have been and will continue to cover this issue ...I have been and will continue to cover this issue at FamilyPreservations.blogpost.com

Kudos to BN, however:

"Bastard Nation, therefore, supports the expedited removal of Haitian children, orphans or otherwise, to credible and documented parents or family members in the US for temporary or permanent placement depending on the circumstances."

Orphans or otherwise?? Especially hopeful that a big agency like Holt is urging caution.

Mirah has a good one up too, from an Australian paper:
http://familypreservation.blogspot.com/2010/01/children-are-best-left-with-their.html

Haiti is going to need help for many years to rebuild, it is good to keep the spotlight on the situation there.maryannenoreply@blogger.com
